The 2011-2012 school year began for New Hope Academy students today. The halls were full of excitement as students greeted new teachers and classmates.

Pre-K teachers introduce themselves to their new students and explain how each school day will work.

These little ones take a trip down the hall, practicing walking together quietly.

The first graduating class of New Hope Academy recently got together for the inaugural NHA Alumni Reunion. The event was hosted by founder and former headmaster Paige Pitts at her home in Franklin, TN.

Students enjoyed sharing memories of their elementary school years at New Hope Academy and catching up on what had happened since then.

It was remarkable to see how these young men and women have continued to develop and are on their way to doing great things for their communities and for the Kingdom. Their formative years at New Hope Academy have certainly molded their hearts and minds in a profound way. (more…)

New Hope has been blessed this week by an extraordinary group of young people from Gate City Baptist Church Youth Group in Greensboro, North Carolina. Thirteen high school students and their adult leaders have spent the week beautifying the New Hope campus in anticipation of the start of the school year, while also attending a nearby conference.

They have refinished the benches at our entrance and done some much-needed maintenance to our playground equipment. They are also in the process of building planter (see below) that will adorn the school with seasonal flowers and other plants.

We are so grateful they have endured the heat and sun to make New Hope a more beautiful place. Thank you, Gate City Baptist Church. We appreciate your investment in our community.

This position can be based mostly from home. Like most schools, New Hope Academy is currently out for summer break, but that doesn’t mean that our mission doesn’t continue during the summer months.
In addition to the intensive planning for the upcoming school year, we are able to open our doors to programs in the community that meet the needs of the youth in our area.
One of the camps we are proud to host this summer is the Royal Priesthood Camp directed by Trillion Small, a counselor from Mercy Children’s Clinic. The Royal Priesthood Camp is for boys and girls, from 3rd through 7th grade.
In addition to the usual games, special speakers, crafts and other fun activities common to summer camp, Royal Priesthood has a more ambitious aim: “Campers will learn the characteristics of men and women of God, conflict resolution, team work, leadership skils and how to be vision-driven. (more…)

This year’s field day was an unconventional one. Due to persistent stormy weather, the games had to be taken inside. Our endlessly creative teachers and parents came up with loads of activities suited to the confines of indoor space. A special thanks to everyone for their last minute flexibility. Thanks to your hard work, the kids had a blast despite the weather.

Mrs. Boone is celebrating! Not because school is out for the summer, but because it feels like Christmas once again in the music room.
Back in January, Mrs. Boone applied for 2 grants from the American Orff-Schulwerk Association (AOSA), a music education organization, for additional instruments for the NHA music room. She was praying for at least one of the grants to be awarded for NHA—a call came in March saying NHA received BOTH grants—for a total of $1500 worth of new materials for the music room. (more…)

New Hope Academy Interim Development Director Laura Benge and Grant Writer Emily Kinzig with Nashville Predators Foundation Representative
Earlier this month, New Hope Academy became the proud recipient of a $1500 grant from the Nashville Predators Foundation. This grant will help perpetuate our Birthday Book Program.
Birthday Books are a long-standing tradition at New Hope Academy, and an integral part of the discipleship model of education the school is known for.
What are Birthday Books?
During all-school devotions on Mondays and Fridays, teachers recognize students in their classes who are celebrating birthdays that week. In preparation for this special ceremony, teachers select a book to give to the school library in honor of their student. The book they choose in some way reflect the students gifts, interests, or calling. (The birthday students gets to be the first to check his/her book out of the library.) (more…)

Most of us are familiar with the story of Jonah in the Bible. We know that God called Jonah to be a prophet or a spokesperson for Him. We know that Jonah was told by God to go to Nineveh and preach against it. We know that Jonah ran from that assignment and was eventually swallowed by a “great fish”, not necessarily a whale. We know that Jonah was a real person because Jesus referred to him in the gospels.
We know a lot about Jonah. It’s a “nice little Bible story” to share with our kids before we put them to bed. It’s a story that makes older people debate about whether a man can actually be swallowed by a fish and live inside of it for three days. This story fascinates us because we tend to focus so much on the whale in this story. When we do this we miss the true “catch of the day”, or should I say, we miss the real catch in this narrative.
