Music Department Receives Instrument Grant
Posted in Development News on 02. Jun, 2011
Mrs. Boone is celebrating! Not because school is out for the summer, but because it feels like Christmas once again in the music room.
Back in January, Mrs. Boone applied for 2 grants from the American Orff-Schulwerk Association (AOSA), a music education organization, for additional instruments for the NHA music room. She was praying for at least one of the grants to be awarded for NHA—a call came in March saying NHA received BOTH grants—for a total of $1500 worth of new materials for the music room.
What were the grants for? The first one was specifically for the younger grades—a 15 piece set of chime bars—like individual bars of a metalophone. They are color-coded so that a whole class of our youngest children can enjoy playing chords and simple melodic parts successfully.
The second one was to enlarge our drum section with 4 new tunable REMO brand drums, along with several other auxilary world percussion instruments, to use to better teach world ensemble music to the older grades. Their use will not be limited to these grades. There will be so many ways to use these new instruments across all the grades of NHA.
Last week, the packages arrived. So plans can be made for their immediate use when school starts in the fall. Praise God for how He continues to bless the NHA music program!
